Aby completed his PGDM and doctorate in management from XLRI Jamshedpur and holds a degree in mechanical engineering from CET, Trivandrum. He teaches consumer behaviour-related topics along with Brand, Retail, and Services management. Previously, he served as Director of the Asian School of Business in Trivandrum and taught as an adjunct faculty member in the Business Administration Department at Dubai University College. Aby left the industry to pursue doctoral research at XLRI, after which he became an academic. He looks for the 'meaning of possessions' and studies the meaning-making process. Thus, his area of interest encompasses semiotics to social anthropology, particularly in the realm of consumer behaviour within marketing. The cultural changes brought about by social class shifts, technological advancements, and media transformations alter consumers' tastes and the meanings associated with possessions; thus, making it imperative to understand the underlying process. He had been a resource person for many Qualitative Research FDPs and sessions conducted across India. He entered academia with 23 years of professional experience, starting as an engineer on the shop floor, progressing to Area Manager, then Regional Contracts Manager, and ultimately heading country operations with various international firms. This gave him a broad view of real-life business scenarios, helpful in understanding ground realities. Throughout his industry career, he worked in the B2B Services sector of the Petrochemical Industry.
